About
INDIE SINGER & SONGWRITER
Deepika’s journey is one of rediscovery—seeking to reconnect with the lost threads of her heritage while creating music that resonates with the present. Based in Mumbai and originally from Delhi, she has studied Hindustani singing and ghazals since childhood under various gurus. Her work explores themes of hope, love, and transcendence, weaving shimmering soundscapes influenced by Ghazal, Retro Bollywood, Jazz, Indie Folk, and Dream Pop. Echoes of artists like Ali Sethi, Rekha Bharadwaj, Arooj Aftab, and Bon Iver flow through her creations.
Belonging to a Punjabi family that relocated to Delhi post-partition, Deepika resonates with many others in her generation who have lost touch with their linguistic and cultural roots in the pursuit of modern life. While she thinks primarily in English, her fascination with Hindustani Classical Music and Urdu poetry plays a major role in her musical explorations.
Deepika’s performances—whether ghazals or original compositions—are intimate and immersive. A seasoned performer and music professional, she has managed artists, curated events, and now supports independent musicians as an artist development consultant. An entrepreneurial force, Deepika is at the helm of innovative live music experiences like the Grapevine Sessions and the Mausamon ki Mehfil series. Her intimate shows celebrate community, art, and human connection, cementing her place as a distinctive voice in India’s vibrant musical landscape.
2025 marks an exciting new chapter in Deepika’s journey as she prepares to release her debut album—an exploration of her evolving sound and a deeper dive into her vocal identity, which many describe as reminiscent of the golden era of retro Bollywood. With this release, she hopes to solidify her artistic voice while continuing to blur the lines between the nostalgic and the contemporary.
